Campaign Kick Off

Senator Radogno Addresses
Aging Care Connections Reception

Aging Care Connections hosted an open house and reception inviting the public to tour the beginning phase of the renovation of their building at 111 W. Harris, La Grange on Thursday, September 20 from 4:30pm to 7pm. More than 100 guests heard remarks from Executive Director Debra Verschelde tracing the 41-year history of the organization and the challenges that lie ahead. The organization has planned a capital and program campaign to position itself to meet the more complex needs of the growing population of older adults in the community.

Aging Care Connections hosted an open house and reception inviting the public to tour the beginning phase of the renovation of their building at 111 W. More than 100 guests heard remarks from Executive Director Debra Verschelde tracing the 41-year history of the organization and the challenges that lie ahead. The organization has planned a capital and program campaign to position itself to meet the more complex needs of the growing population of older adults in the community.

Kicking off the “Leading the commitment to aging well” campaign, board member and campaign chair Jerry Burjan acknowledged Illinois Senator Christine Radogno. Funding for the initial renovation phase was made possible through Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno and the “Illinois Jobs Now!” capital program.  “Illinois Jobs Now!” was passed by the Illinois legislature in 2009 and has a dedicated revenue stream apart from other general revenue funds in the state.

Board members Jerry Burjan, Campaign Chair; Bill Wilson, President; Saranne Milano, Past President; and Rick Shanley, Vice Chair.

Saranne Milano, president of the Aging Care Connections board of directors, presented a plaque to Senator Radogno in gratitude for her pivotal role in the campaign. It will hang permanently in the entry of the building. Senator Radogno emphasized the growing need for the work of Aging Care Connections and applauded its contributions to the community throughout the past forty-one years.

Successfully completing the capital campaign will enable Aging Care Connections to meet the needs of the growing population of older adults and their families who turn to the agency for programs and support throughout the year. The project involves much-needed refurbishing of existing facilities, specifically to allow for the facility to become more compliant with ADA standards, as well as to ensure programs to respond to the increasing needs of older adults in the community. More than 8,000 older adults are served by the agency each year.
Following the program, guests took tours of the building, heard presentations by department supervisors and enjoyed refreshments.
